Mike Johnson
U.S. Representative for Louisiana
James Michael Johnson was born in January 1972 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He earned an undergraduate degree and a Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University. He became a constitutional lawyer, serving as senior counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom prior to his political career.
Johnson founded a nonprofit legal ministry and served on the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. Johnson won the 8th District seat of the Louisiana House of Representatives unopposed.
Johnson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, assuming office in January 2017. He has won reelection three times. He was voted Speaker of the House of Representatives in October 2023 after Kevin McCarthy was removed from the position.
Johnson is married to Kelly, and they have five children. He is a Baptist.

House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that U.S. voters have an important choice to make in the November midterm elections.
“It’s time to choose between our country and communism,” the House Speaker said. “It’s a contrast for America, and the choice is YOURS.”
Representative Johnson stated, “In 100 days, the people of this country have a critical choice: common sense or crazy.” He warned that the minority party has been surrendering to extremists.
Earlier this month, Speaker Johnson spoke of the dangers of socialism and communism, stating, “This is not a game.” He highlighted, “We’re arguing over whether or not freedom is going to survive!”
